Luke KOLBUSZ
Luke Kolbusz

Feelings of adventure and exploration are key to Luke Kolbusz’s practice, in both technique and concept. Much of his work sits within the tradition of portraiture, with figures either refusing to resolve into clear tones and textures or alternately sharpening into bright and lucid clarity against washed-out out backgrounds.

While previously Kolbusz relied largely on intuition for a sense of when a work is ‘complete’, meaning many of the portraits appear as inchoate fragments, his work has more recently shifted to explore themes of identity through sharper narratives. Familiar features and forms are entangled in vibrant, often dissonant colours, challenging traditional palettes. (Harry Sanderson)

Luke Kolbusz’s graduated from Fine Arts (UWA) and will be exhibiting at KolbuszSpace in Oct 2023 following his sell- out exhibitions Big World in 2020 and New Armour in 2021.
