Montana Cooke’s paintings stage figures in close, uneasy proximity, where touch can register as tenderness, dependence or friction. Bodies press against one another, separate and reappear, while shifts in posture and scale turn each painting into a charged psychological space.
For the first time, Cooke will work at large scale. Across eight major paintings, her figures gain greater physical and emotional force without losing their tenderness or nuance.
