A Quiet Force considers the reciprocal relationship between human beings and the natural world: how we shape, organise and also damage our environments, and how those environments act upon us in return both physically and psychologically. Organic forms, built structures and traces of human intervention recur across the exhibition, suggesting an ongoing exchange between bodies, materials and place.
Pasalic moves between photography, tapestry, painting and sculpture as interconnected modes of thought. A monumental tapestry more than two metres wide anchors the exhibition, surrounded by two streams of smaller works spanning compact tufted textiles and mixed-media paintings on board incorporating steel, toner, transfer, acrylic and varnish. Softness meets hardness, handwork meets industrial process.
Recent features in VAULT and frankie reflect the growing attention surrounding Pasalic’s work and its distinctive combination of material experimentation and conceptual clarity. Born in Croatia, Pasalic has lived and worked across Europe and Australia. She holds degrees in industrial design and design from the University of Zagreb and has exhibited in Zagreb, Ljubljana, New York, Brussels, Vienna, Adelaide, Jerusalem, Sydney, Canberra and Perth.
