Georgia Bisley is a Boorloo/Perth-based textile artist known for her distinctive, large-scale tapestries crafted from repurposed yarns and hand-dyed linens. Her practice interrogates themes of identity, culture, and the digital realm, exploring the processes of ‘unmaking’ and ‘undoing’ to challenge conventional notions of perfection within textile traditions.
Building on her sell-out 2023 exhibition Hyper Real, which drew from the bold, hyper-realistic imagery saturating contemporary culture, Bisley’s latest body of work titled, Soft Focus, offers a considered counterpoint. This new exhibition shifts into a softened, blurry tactile realm, embracing materiality and nuance to disrupt the sharp precision of digital aesthetics.
A 2021 finalist in the prestigious Wangaratta Contemporary Textile Award, Bisley has since achieved widely acclaimed exhibitions and completed numerous corporate and residential commissions, cementing her reputation both nationally and internationally.
