Kolbusz Space is a multi – purpose studio, gallery and project space under the direction of artist Waldemar Kolbusz, located in the former industrial Claisebrook precinct on the inner-city fringe area of Perth.

Kolbusz Space prioritises ways to encourage sustainable careers and facilitate positive outcomes for artists, with mentoring and regular low commission exhibition opportunities for selected emerging artists.

The studio space occupied by Kolbusz and stockroom representing early career artists encourages direct involvement with the community to nurture new collectors, and further energise cultural contributions both to and from Perth.

Kolbusz Space respects and acknowledges the Whadjuk Noongar people past, present and future as the traditional carers of the land where the space is situated, and supports their hopes for the future, the positive role arts can contribute to this, and the wellbeing of all of us together.

Waldemar Kolbusz lives and works in Perth, and has been painting full-time and exhibiting regularly for the past two decades.

Kolbusz paints in two streams which interrelate, one of figurative works about the progress of his actual practice and one of abstract works which explore progressive points of change within the paintings themselves. “The degree to which we are all challenged in our daily lives between order and mess, controlled and spontaneous, big picture and small detail, draws me in.”

His figurative works broadly document challenges and questions within his own art career, including the relevance of being a painter today. The images are sourced usually from his own photography taken on his phone.

Kolbusz’ paintings have been commissioned for major projects Australia-wide and collected nationally and internationally. Kolbusz is represented by GallerySmith Melbourne, M Contemporary Sydney and Aptos Cruz Adelaide.
