Kolbusz Space is a contemporary art gallery in Perth, Western Australia founded and directed by artist Waldemar Kolbusz. Purpose-built in 2019 in the former industrial Claisebrook precinct on the inner-city fringe, Kolbusz Space is also a multi – purpose studio and project space.
Kolbusz Space has a tightly curated monthly exhibition schedule which promotes innovative and engaging early career artists across broad mediums, and also showcases an expansive stockroom of artworks available for purchase of represented artists.
Kolbusz Space prioritises ways to encourage sustainable careers and facilitate positive outcomes for selected artists, while encouraging direct involvement with the community to nurture new collectors in order to invigorate the cultural exchange between Perth and the broader artistic world.
Kolbusz Space respects and acknowledges the Whadjuk Noongar people past, present and future as the traditional carers of the land where the space is situated, and supports their hopes for the future, the positive role arts can contribute to this, and the wellbeing of all of us together.
Waldemar Kolbusz lives and works in Perth and has been painting full-time and exhibiting regularly for over two decades both nationally and internationally.
Kolbusz paints in two streams which interrelate, one of figurative works which examine experience and test the differences between an idealised human experience and actual experience – the increasingly blurred overlap between the two in our contemporary lives. Do we only experience how we think we’re supposed to experience? Am I sold feelings, later imagined to be my own?
His abstractions explore this same fine edge: they allude to a kind of perfection, but then to something else.
Kolbusz’ paintings have been commissioned for major projects internationally and are widely collected. Kolbusz is represented in Australia by Gallerysmith Melbourne, M Contemporary Sydney, Aptos Cruz Adelaide and Studio Gallery Group Brisbane.
